Enrollment Periods

President-Elect Joe Biden's vision for healthcare is well aligned with President Obama's. Biden plans on using the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as the basis of his healthcare vision. The ACA has faced many congressional challenges in the past, and its accessibility has been dramatically reduced by the Trump administration. However, Biden aims to change all of that. Biden Care is essentially the new Obamacare and will have similar pricing.

Enrollment Periods

As a citizen of the United States of America, you receive two chances to enroll in Biden Care. The first window is during Open Enrollment. The second option is to apply during the Special Enrollment Period, the timing of which depends upon several factors which we will discuss later in this article.called Biden Care) would allow citizens to enroll in a public health insurance option.

Open Enrollment for 2021 is from November 1st until December 15th, 2020.

For those already part of a plan, the Open Enrollment period is the ideal time to make any amendments to your healthcare plan. For example, if you want to switch to a new plan or update the one you are currently using, Open Enrollment is the time to do it.

Alternatively, if you happen to be satisfied with your current plan, remember that you still need to re-enroll in it for 2021 during the Open Enrollment period.

Outside of this period, you will be allowed to enroll in a health insurance plan only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

The Special Enrollment Period is valid for individuals who have passed through specific life events like getting married, having a baby, or losing a previous healthcare plan.

Please keep in mind that job-based plans can sometimes have different durations for Open Enrollment. So, it's best to confirm your enrollment period with your employer.

Enrolment for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is open throughout the year.

What Biden Care Offers

The four pillars of Biden Care are as follow:

  • The creation of a new public healthcare system that is similar to Medicare. The system will be designed in a way that is accessible and affordable for all Americans. The aim is to ensure that nobody gets left behind. Moreover, the Biden presidency will allow Americans to choose between public and private healthcare. Biden understands that having a free choice is the ultimate form of power, which is why he wants every American to be able to choose for themselves. This is only possible if the public healthcare plan is just as good as the private ones.
  • Reassessment and streamlining of healthcare plans are also on the agenda. This includes both public and private plans. Biden hopes that by making amends where necessary, all healthcare plan options will be easier to understand and more affordable for Americans.
  • Biden Care also aims to reduce the cost of prescription drugs that are currently reaching a high that is unaffordable for the average American. Biden Care will do so by monitoring and regulating private pharma companies and introducing alternative drugs from across the border.
  • Biden's fourth pillar of healthcare rests in the belief that every American should have access to affordable healthcare no matter their race, gender, socioeconomic background, or financial standing. This belief extends to those who have preexisting or chronic health conditions.

Biden Care certainly comes with many excellent benefits. If you're planning on switching over to Biden Care, be sure not to miss the Open Enrollment period. This period occurs once a year and will repeat itself annually.

Biden Care subscribers are expected to subscribe to their chosen healthcare plan within this time frame. Otherwise, they may miss the chance to get access to affordable healthcare altogether.

The Special Enrollment period is available all year round but can only be accessed if the individual applying fits into all the prerequisites. As mentioned above, Special Enrollment is only valid for those who have either just gotten married, had a newborn child, just gained citizenship, or have faced a major life-changing milestone that is significant enough to affect their healthcare plan.

Advertised Pricing:

There are several factors that impact your monthly premium; including your age, geographical location, annual income, dependents, and the type of plan you choose. Monthly premiums do not include out-of-pocket costs.

The advertised price may not be typical. It was generated using the Kaiser Family Foundation's subsidy calculator that was accessed on September 16, 2020. The following parameters were used: 21 year old adult, non-tobacco user, annual income of $24,700 in 2020, no children, and no available coverage through a spouse's employer. The resulting monthly premium was $30 per month (or $360 per year after $2,751 in subsidies) for a Bronze Plan. Even when using the same parameters, the resulting premium and subsidy calculations may be subject to change.
